St. Aloysius Cemetery, located in the Whitewater Valley, is a beautiful resting place for our deceased family, relatives and friends. The land for St. Aloysius cemetery was purchased from Archibald and Mary Montgomery by the Diocese of St. Paul of Minnesota under Bishop Joseph Cretin in 1872. The Diocese of Winona purchased the land in 1912, and St. Aloysius Catholic Church purchased the land in 1913. Both of these transactions were done with Quit Claim Deeds under Bishop Patrick Heffron.
Within the cemetery, an altar with an adjoining stone wall was built in 1939. The stone wall was replaced in 2015 and it supports the crucifix and angels which were part of the original wall. In 1991, a new altar was placed in front of the stone wall. In 2022, a sign was erected which displays a map of the cemetery and a list of the burials in alphabetical order.
The St. Aloysius Cemetery Association was established to manage and operate St. Aloysius Cemetery in 1952. The trustees at that time were Bishop Edward Fitzgerald, Father Edward Klein, Gregory Kramer and Leo Mueller. The St. Aloysius Cemetery Association continues to actively maintain the cemetery with the help of volunteers and contributions. Thank you for your past, present and future generosity.
May the souls of the faithful departed, rest in peace!
