  • St. Aloysius Cemetery Regulations

    Burials-

    1. Clergy must be present at all burials.
    2. The involvement of a funeral director and the cemetery association is required.
    3. Before the burial, the funeral director must deliver all required permits and authorizations to the St. Aloysius cemetery association.
    4. All caskets must be placed in a vault, which is any container or enclosure made of concrete, fiber-glass or steel which is placed in a grave around a casket to prevent the collapse of the grave and to protect the casket. Vaults can be purchased from a funeral director. All vaults must be placed into a grave by a person who has the proper insurance for placing vaults.
    5. All cremation burials require a vault, which is a container or other receptacle made of concrete, metal, fiber-glass or durable plastic used for the outer protection of the container. Vaults can be purchased from a funeral director.
    6. Cremation vaults and cremains must be placed in the grave by a funeral director or a family member. This will not be done by the cemetery association. (Alternately, cremains can be interred above ground within specially designed monuments).

    Monuments-

    1. Deviations require approval by the cemetery association.
    2. Monuments must be made of granite or marble. The monument must rest on a foundation of granite or concrete.
    3. The foundation must exceed the monument’s width and length by at least six inches; to a maximum of two feet wide by seven feet long (for two graves) or a maximum of two feet wide by forty-two inches (for a single grave).
    4. It is recommended that a sleeve for the urn stand be part of the foundation.
    5. Military plaques must be placed on the back of the monument, not in the ground.
    6. Foundations and monuments must be placed by a qualified, experienced person who has the proper liability insurance.
    7. Foundations should be placed within one year of purchasing the grave.
    8. Monuments must be in place within one year of the burial. If there are financial reasons for not being able to have the foundation or monument placed within one year, contact the cemetery association.
    9. Engraving of death information is not allowed until after the burial is completed.

    Grave opening and closing-

    1. Grave opening and closing will be done by a qualified, experienced person who has the proper liability insurance.
    2. The cost for opening and closing a grave for a casket is $600 ($700 during the winter) and for an urn is $300 ($400 during the winter).
    3. Payment and scheduling will be handled by the funeral director.

    Committal fees-

    1. For each burial, the cemetery association charges a committal fee of $175.
    2. This fee is collected by the funeral director.

    Graves-

    1. Graves can only be purchased from the cemetery association.
    2. Transfer of grave ownership can only be done by the cemetery association.
    3. The purchaser will receive a permanent care certificate.
    4. A portion of the purchase price is dedicated to the permanent care fund in accordance with diocesan policy.
    5. The current purchase cost for one grave is $650, which can be used for one casket, one casket and one cremation (ONLY IF CASKET IS BURIED FIRST), or two cremations.
    6. The second burial in a single grave (defined as a second vault OR a second urn in the same vault) will cost an additional $325 and is due at the time of the second burial.
    7. Prior to the second burial, an authorization form to allow the burial needs to be completed by the grave owner or owner’s heir and returned to the cemetery association.
    8. If a family member chooses to transfer a grave that was purchased previously, a transfer form needs to be completed by the grave owner or owner’s heir and returned to the cemetery association prior to the burial.

    General-

    1. The planting of flowers, shrubs or trees in the ground at gravesites is prohibited.
    2. Decorative iron and shepherd hooks are prohibited, unless permanently installed.
    3. No pets are allowed on the cemetery grounds.
    4. No ATV’s are allowed on the cemetery grounds.
    5. No food or beverages can be left at gravesites.
